LOT Students Develop iEntertainment Strategy

By: Dana Davis, NBMBAA-DFW Chairperson of Student AffairsThe students of the Leaders of Tomorrow program joined 19 other hopeful teams on Saturday, June 21 at the 8th Annual Exxon National Case Competition in Detroit, Michigan. While the DFW team did not place this year, their performance was commendable.

Preparation for this event began in March when the business case was released to all of the competing teams nationwide. The selected case was from the Harvard Business Review on the Samsung Company.

The students were to act as consultants to Samsung’s leadership team and to present strategic recommendations on topics such as “localization vs. globalization” and “achieving iconic status in a product or its brand.”

Over the next couple of months, the Leaders dedicated 10 to 20 hours per week to practice time for the national case competition. During each session, the topics were dissected. As their understanding increased, they began making recommendations to present to the "Samsung Company."

This year, the DFW Leaders team consisted of two rising seniors (Kiah Rashid and Evan Roney), one rising junior (Tyler Roussell), and two rising freshmen (Jalil Peraza and Kristen Brown). The Dallas team is already preparing their strategy for next year. The team agreed that the experience gained was priceless. Next year, the case competition is scheduled to be held in Miami, Florida.
